Happy Holly heading to the water bus in Venice |
WOW and WOW! Getting off the train and walking into mass chaos of tourists is overwhelming. Getting on a water bus is chaos…but getting off and breathing long enough to take in Venice makes it well worth the chaos. It you can’t handle chaos then take a water taxi – personally, I loved the experience!
This is truly the most beautiful place – despite the tourists occupying the streets. To do Venice you really have to do a quick day of tourist spots and then spend the rest of the day with your honey “wig waging” (Jeff’s new word for walking that caught on very quickly after vino) through the streets. Our hotel, Ca’ Angeli, was situated in the calmer area of Venice…so thankful for that!

Our first day we settled in then met with a private guide named Sarah. Sarah spoke fluent Italian and every other language possible…gorgeous Italian woman who was also a wine guru (Sommelier). Sarah showed us the less touristic areas of Venice as well as the wine bars. What makes Venice so amazing to me is “how?” – it’s ALL on water! After the tour we went to dinner at a restaurant that our guide recommended and had to show us how to find because Venice is not for the directionally impaired. Note, if you have trouble with direction then go to Venice ready to stay lost all day with the knowledge that there is a café around the corner. The restaurant was packed with people from the Foreign Film Festival (nope, did not see anyone we recognized) so while the food was wonderful, the service was terrible….I don’t think we were high on the socialite list.
Loving Venice!
