The next day we visited the Ponte di Rialto and St Marks Square…high tourist areas!
Gondola Ride |
After about half of day of bumping into everyone we headed back to our calm area for a nap and then off to dinner. Oh but first…the gondola. Yep, I asked our gondola man two questions before we hopped in…how much and do you sing? While someone’s first thought might be that a gondola ride is a tourist trap, I have to say that it is an experience everyone should have. We chose to go the quiet route through the small canals. Not only was it romantic ( I had my amazing husband next to me) but it was also a great way to see the crevices of Venice at a slow pace. Loved it!
Saw the largest pigeon ever today...seriously! Jeff said it was the first overweight Italian that he has seen the whole trip. We probably shouldn't make fun of him since we have done nothing but eat pasta...Pasta Pigeon!
We left Venice via water taxi to head to the airport – an indulgent way to go but well worth the experience. Darcy, thank you for the recommendation. The view behind as the taxi pulled away was gorgeous and within 5 minutes I missed Venice! Such an incredible mingling of history, beauty and fortitude!
I am officially in love with Venice and though we may never go again….I will always remember the way my cheeks hurt on the plane from smiling so much!
